Ljubljana – The winner of the European elections in Slovenia is the opposition center-right party SDS, which, according to partial and unofficial results, won four out of nine seats in the European Parliament. Another seat was won by the other opposition center-right party NSi. The ruling center-left parties Freedom and SD received two and one seat respectively, while one seat went to the non-parliamentary green party Vesna.
After counting almost all the votes cast, SDS, which is part of the EPP, received 30.75 percent of the votes and four parliamentary seats, which is two more than it currently has. According to the party’s president Janez Janša, “those who exclude have learned their lesson today”.
For the liberal Freedom Movement, which is part of Renew at the EU level, 22.12 percent of voters voted, retaining two seats. Party president and Prime Minister Robert Golob is satisfied with this result.
The fantastic result of one parliamentary seat was noted by the green party Vesna’s list leader Vladimir Prebilič, who, with 10.51 percent of the votes, successfully made his first breakthrough into the European Parliament. She will join the European Greens political group.
The last two seats for Slovenian MEPs in the new composition of the European Parliament were divided between the center-left ruling party SD (S&D) with 7.71 percent and the center-right opposition NSi (EPP) with 7.68 percent of the votes.
The turnout was 41.19 percent of eligible voters, which is a good 12 percentage points more than in the previous elections five years ago. (June 10)
