Brussels – Austria’s new Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler (SPÖ) paid an inaugural visit to the EU institutions in Brussels on Wednesday. According to the statement, he met with the Vice President of the European Commission, Teresa Ribera, to discuss the development of the European and Austrian industry strategy. In a meeting with Culture Commissioner Glenn Micallef, Babler emphasized the importance of the cultural program “Creative Europe”.
Before his social democratic S&D parliamentary group, Babler appeared as a guest speaker. He emphasized the significant role that social democracy plays in combating the rise of authoritarian governments in and around Europe. A “European counter-model” could not be limited to “defending the EU as an internal market, but must consist in achieving the transformation of the EU into a Union of social justice,” Babler stressed.
