Brussels (Fena) – The Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Dubravka Bošnjak and the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides signed the Agreement on the Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the EU4Health program in Brussels on Tuesday, which represents a significant step forward in health policy and the improvement of health care in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

By signing this agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina is given access to financial resources of 5.3 billion euros, which the European Union has approved for the member states of the Program for the period from 2021 to 2027.

This is the largest amount of financial resources so far compared to all previous cycles of the European Union’s health programs. Minister Bošnjak expressed her satisfaction with the signing of the agreement, emphasizing that joining the EU4Health program will bring many benefits to the health system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is a great opportunity for us to modernize and improve our health system and move closer to European standards. Access to European funds and resources will allow us to respond more quickly to health challenges, improve the quality of health services, and ensure better health conditions for everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Bošnjak said.

She also emphasized that joining the Program is not only about funding. It is about strengthening cooperation and exchanging best practices with other EU member states, and it is very important to include as many health institutions as possible to achieve greater success in utilizing the opportunities offered by the Program.

The European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides expressed her satisfaction that Bosnia and Herzegovina has joined this program.

We remind you that the European Union established this program in 2021 by Regulation (EU) 2021/522, and it was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and to strengthen crisis preparedness in the European Union. The program aims to make the health systems in the member states of the program stronger, more resilient, and more accessible to be able to face long-term health challenges more effectively.

It is expected that by participating in this program, Bosnia and Herzegovina will, among other things, strengthen cooperation with European Union countries and other member states of the said program, regarding the exchange of knowledge and best practices for the response of health systems to cross-border health threats.
