Bucharest – Former European Commissioner Corina Crețu asserts that there is no locality in Romania that hasn’t benefited from European funds, which are due to our membership in the European Union, and that, for instance, in 2023, our country was in the first place regarding the funds received, relative to the country’s population.
She specified that since joining the European Union in 2007, Romania has received over 95 billion euros in non-reimbursable funds, with a contribution of under 30 billion euros.
Corina Crețu summarized the projects for which she approved funding, as European Commissioner for Regional Policy (2014-2019), which are currently under construction or already in use.
The former European Commissioner mentioned the approval of initial funding for the Regional Hospitals in Craiova, Iași, and Cluj-Napoca, the approval of the Transport Master Plan, the Câmpia Turzii – Târgu Mureș highway, with European co-financing of nearly 250 million euros, or the rehabilitation of the Radna-Gurasada-Simeria railway section, with 1.3 billion euros of European financial support.
Additionally, Crețu pointed out the M6 metro line (Gara de Nord – Otopeni Airport), with European funding of nearly 520 million euros for the construction of the 1 Mai – Tokyo section, the expansion of the national cadastre system, valued at over 310 million euros, water infrastructure modernization projects in almost all counties of the country.
Among the major projects, Corina Crețu also exemplified the modernization of the Agigea, Cernavodă, Ovidiu, Năvodari locks, the modernization of the Bucharest ring road with a European co-financing of one billion euros, the project of the 5th Metro Line in Bucharest, for which she allocated 250 million euros in 2017, as well as the modernization of the 2nd Metro Line – Berceni – Pipera, valued at nearly 100 million euros.
Moreover, many other works have been carried out with European funds, especially regarding the Unirii Highway, the Transylvania Highway, and the long-awaited Moldova Highway. (16.12.2024)
