Dan Jørgensen, former Danish minister for energy and climate, is now in charge of the European Union’s Energy and Housing policy. It is a challenging time when the bloc envisions becoming fully independent from Russian fossil fuels while juggling a tense trans-atlantic relationship with the United States.
The Commissioner and his team gathered at the European Commission’s headquarters in Brussels, with 12 journalists from news agencies participating in the European Newsroom (enr) attending the in-person interview.
The agencies present included EFE (Spain), Ritzau (Denmark), STA (Slovenia), TASR (Slovakia), HINA (Croatia), UKRINFORM (Ukraine), dpa (Germany) and CTK (Czech Republic).
Prior to the interview, several correspondents met at the enr offices in the Residence Palace to prepare a list of questions to be asked during the interview.
Other agencies had also submitted their questions, which their colleagues attending the interview asked on their behalf – a very good example of the collegiality and team spirit of the agencies in the European Newsroom.

After the interview, all content – audio, video, photo and transcript – was shared with the 23 enr member agencies and, as a result, a number of them covered the interview by publishing news items on their respective wires.
The enr also produced three Key Stories based on the interview:
Story 1: EU Energy Commissioner: Ukraine peace talks did not delay plan for Russian fossil fuel phase out
Story 2: EU Energy Commissioner: US turn from climate protection opportunity for Europe
Story 3: Affordable energy plan will save industry and EU households billions, Commissioner expects
Last but not least, it has also produced a short behind-the-scenes video on what goes on during an interview with high-ranking EU politicians in Brussels:
