Ljubljana – Slovenia is a key or one of the best partners of the European Agency for Police Cooperation, Europol, in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking, said the director of the agency Catherine De Bolle during her visit to Slovenia on the 20th anniversary of its membership in Europol. In an interview for STA, she also highlighted the cooperation of law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime.
According to the director, because of its location and connection with the Western Balkans, Slovenia is one of the key countries on the migration route, therefore its role in preventing illegal migrations is also crucial.
“Slovenia is crucial, actually one of the best partners of Europol in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking also because of the orientation of the Slovenian police, which favors information exchange and cooperation. We really need each other. Slovenia, being among the smaller countries, is even more inclined to close cooperation in combating organized crime,” she emphasized.
The importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies with the support of Europol was also highlighted due to the fact that criminal groups channel illegally obtained money into legitimate businesses and corruption, thereby undermining the rule of law.
Slovenia joined the European Union on May 1, 2004, thereby also becoming a member of Europol. This is an EU agency for cooperation in the field of prevention, detection, and investigation of organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and other serious criminal offenses. (May 20)
