Strasbourg – The European Parliament calls on EU member states to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons against military targets on Russian soil. Ukraine must have the ability to fully defend itself, the Parliament said. Without lifting restrictions, this is not fully possible.
The corresponding – legally non-binding – resolution was adopted by the parliamentarians in Strasbourg with 425 votes in favor, 131 votes against, and 63 abstentions. The Parliament appeals to all EU states to increase their aid to Ukraine instead of cutting it. The members also call on the member states to fulfill their promise from March 2023 to deliver one million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine and to fundamentally accelerate the delivery of weapons.
EU Parliament wants to maintain sanctions
The Parliament also wants EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus, as well as against Iran and North Korea for their support of Russia’s illegitimate war efforts, to be maintained and extended. Furthermore, regulations should be created to compensate Ukraine with confiscated Russian state assets for the destruction, demands the Parliament. (September 19)
