The former Belgian prime minister was at the helm of the Council of the European Union for five years – including through tumultuous periods of COVID, the start of Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East.
With 13 journalists present, the outgoing president answered questions regarding his vision for the European Union, the potential for EU enlargement and why he believes unity is of the utmost importance. He further elaborated on what the upcoming US elections might mean for the bloc and where he sees potential for the European project to grow stronger.
