The world watched with a heavy heart the grotesque spectacle in which Hamas paraded with the coffins of two children and a peace activist, emphasized the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on Friday.
Hamas handed over the bodies of four Israeli hostages kidnapped from Israel on October 7, 2023, to the Red Cross on Thursday. According to previous announcements, these were supposed to be the bodies of Shiri Bibas and her two small children, Ariel and Kfir, and Oded Lifschitz, a journalist and peace activist who also had Polish citizenship. However, the Israeli army announced that one of the bodies belongs to an unknown person and is not the mother of the two children.
“The world watched with a heavy heart the grotesque spectacle in which Hamas paraded with the coffins of two children and an 85-year-old peace activist who were killed after being brutally dragged from their homes and taken hostage,” wrote the President of the European Parliament on platform X. “Now we learn that the second returned body does not belong to Shiri Bibas – the mother of the children,” she added (https://tinyurl.com/4nzb2jtx).
“We will remember Ariel and Kfir Bibas – their innocence will remain etched in our collective humanity,” noted Metsola. “We will remember Oded Lifschitz and what he stood for,” Metsola emphasized.
As she added, last week during her visit to Israel and the Gaza Strip, she met with Oded’s family. The EP President emphasized in a statement that their strength, determination, and vitality are extraordinary.
During the attack on October 7, 2023, Palestinian terrorists killed around 1,200 people and abducted 251. 76 people from this group remain captive, and according to the Israeli army, 31 of them are dead. The invasion started a war in the Gaza Strip, which killed over 48,000 Palestinians. The prospects of extending the ceasefire, in effect until the beginning of March, are uncertain. (21.02.2025)
