The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, former MEP Tanja Fajon stated from Tirana that Albania is now on the right track concerning the European integration process.

Fajon participated in the panel “The Journey and Dynamics of the EU Integration Process”, held within the framework of the three-day ambassadors’ conference “Tirana Diplo 2024”.

Fajon said that now is a good chance to work hard on the EU enlargement including the Western Balkan countries.

Fajon brought to attention the statements of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, last year, where 2030 was mentioned as a possible date for membership.

“We have a chance, also because of the Russian war in Ukraine, we want to make Europe stronger. Let’s be ready from our side and from the EU side by 2030. This can be an opportunity if it is taken seriously by all sides, politicians as well as our societies. Continuity on this path will make some countries part of the EU in a few years,” Fajon declared.

She assessed that the Growth Plan of the European Commission will also have a positive impact in this direction.

The Slovenian chief diplomat emphasized the need for cooperation between countries in the region so that the region is stable, has peace, and works together especially for the younger generation.

At the same time, Fajon appreciated Albania’s work in the Security Council, as Slovenia is preparing to take the presidency this September./ (August 26)
