Bratislava – Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) wants to propose to the highest constitutional officials and the chairmen of coalition parties to issue a statement on the foreign policy orientation of the Slovak Republic. He announced this in a video on social media. According to him, it is a response to the emergence of other opinions than those promoted by Brussels and the denial of basic democratic principles, TASR reports.
“At the Government Office of the Slovak Republic, we are intensely analyzing the situation in some EU member states, particularly in Austria, Germany, France, and Romania. The emergence of other opinions than those promoted by Brussels and the denial of basic democratic principles forces me to propose to the highest constitutional officials and chairmen of the government’s coalition parties that we issue a joint statement on the given situation defining the content and quality of Slovakia’s foreign policy orientation and the principles by which we are governed in foreign matters,” he said.
The Prime Minister also confirmed his Thursday (Jan 9) trip to Brussels concerning the halt of gas transit through Ukraine. On Friday (Jan 10), the Prime Minister is to participate in a meeting of the parliamentary committee for European affairs.
“Opposition MPs want to talk to me there about my meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I will gladly oblige,” he said. (January 7)
