Brdo pri Kranju – OECD has advised the government in the latest economic review for Slovenia to pursue further reforms, particularly in the pension and healthcare system, as well as public sector salaries. Challenges are also seen in the housing market, decarbonization of the economy, and gender equality.
“The Slovenian economy has grown faster in the last five years than the economies of OECD countries and the euro area,” said OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann at the report’s presentation on Wednesday.
The central challenge for Slovenia highlighted in this report is improving fiscal sustainability, especially in connection with an aging population. Another important challenge is the continued efforts to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, particularly in the agriculture, energy, and transport sectors.
According to Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič, the pension reform currently being prepared is expected to contribute critically to fiscal sustainability. Regarding measures in the area of the green transition, he emphasized the promotion of private investments in the new draft national energy and climate plan, which member states must prepare as part of the implementation of European Union legislation.
