BRUSSELS – Five Bulgarian MEPs are joining the leadership of the European Parliament (EP) committees. This is shown by institution’s announcements regarding the formation of new parliamentary committees.

MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk (“Renew Europe”/DPS) was elected today as chairman of the EP Legal Affairs Committee. MEP Emil Radev (EPP/GERB-SDS) was elected as fourth vice-chairman of the same parliamentary committee.

MEP Tsvetelina Penkova (S&D/”BSP for Bulgaria”) was elected as first vice-chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. Last week, the EP voted by a large majority for MEP Andrey Kovatchev (EPP/GERB-SDS) to be appointed as a quaestor in the new term of the institution. Quaestors deal with administrative matters that directly affect the MEPs themselves and have an advisory voice in the EP Bureau, composed of the president, his 14 deputy chairmen and the five quaestors. Last week, the EP re-elected Roberta Metsola as president of the institution for the next two and a half years. MEPs determined her 14 deputies in two votes.
