How satisfied is the cultural sector with the financial support it can expect from the EU until 2034? How can the cultural heritage of Ukraine be effectively protected in times of the Russian war of aggression? And should there be a minimum age for social media use? It was indeed a very broad spectrum of topics that was addressed on November 18 in the interview of the European Newsroom with the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT), Nela Riehl.
Correspondents from five agencies represented in the enr jointly conducted the interview in a conference room at the European Parliament in Brussels. The journalists present hailed from AFP (France), ANSA (Italy), APA (Austria), dpa (Germany), and EFE (Spain). The quintet was supported by Ángela García López and Christian Röwekamp from the enr team.

The content of the interview and related materials were made accessible to all enr agencies, allowing them to publish articles on their respective channels.
A large part of the interview was devoted to the topics of funding for culture and education as well as the regulation of social media by the European Union, with the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in the latter topic.
The enr has published the following contributions on the content of the conversation:
– Leading EU education policy maker: To protect children from false perceptions of reality caused by AI, “shift the responsibility from parents to companies” (Key Story)
– Committee Chair: Draft EU multiannual financial framework “recognizes culture as a value and a strategic tool” (Europe in Brief in German)
Nela Riehl is from Hamburg, Germany. Since 2024, she has been a Member of the European Parliament for the Volt party, and she belongs to the Greens/European Free Alliance group in the Parliament.
