Skopje – North Macedonia should take advantage of the positive momentum and move more decisively towards the path of European integration, said today from Vinica the Euroambassador David Geer, answering journalist questions whether the results of the European elections will affect the EU enlargement process.
– The leaders of the governments of the 27 member states of the European Union after the European elections showed a commitment that their strategic vision for the past five years would be the enlargement process, so I can say that the enlargement process remains a top priority, said Geer, adding that he does not see any change even for the next structure of the European institutions.
The only thing I can add, he emphasized, is that at this moment there is indeed a huge opportunity for the Republic of North Macedonia in the context of the enlargement of the European Union, so I really hope that North Macedonia, but also the entire Western Balkans will be able to take advantage of this positive momentum in the context of the EU enlargement and will be able to move more decisively towards the path of European integration.
In the European elections in June this year, the right-wing spectrum parties won, which led to the announcement of early parliamentary elections in France. Despite the strengthening of the right, the European People’s Party (EPP), led in the elections by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, remains the strongest faction in the new composition of the European Parliament with 189 seats. In the new parliamentary mandate in the 720-member parliament, the social democrats won 133 seats, the liberals 82, the conservatives 70, Identity and Democracy 60, and the greens 53 seats. (July 10)
