Berlin – Germany and the Baltic states want to advocate for a new digital agenda for the European Union. They presented a catalog of demands to the future EU Commission, which will be formed after the upcoming European elections. German Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP, Liberals) spoke on Monday in Berlin about fewer government interventions and more freedom for European companies.
With the “Innovation Club”, unnecessary reporting obligations should be reduced, data availability increased, and common standards promoted, Wissing said. “The state should focus on core tasks such as establishing investment- and competition-friendly framework conditions for broadband expansion.”
Wissing commented after a digital meeting with colleagues from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The states had founded an “Innovation Club”. Wissing said the club was also open to other EU countries. Lithuanian Minister of Economy and Innovation, Aušrinė Armonaitė, stated that the goal is to make Europe a world-leading digital location. (May 27)
