Germany and the United Kingdom with new ambassadors in Slovenia

Ljubljana – New German Ambassador to Slovenia Sylvia Groneick will strive primarily to strengthen German-Slovenian cooperation in the fields of climate protection and the expansion of the European Union to the Western Balkans during her four-year mandate. The importance of integrating this region into Euro-Atlantic connections was also highlighted by the new British Ambassador to Slovenia Victoria Harrison.

“The climate crisis is the central challenge of this century. Germany and Slovenia, as industrialized countries, face the same task: transforming our industries to be climate-neutral. I want to accelerate this transformation through close German-Slovenian economic cooperation,” emphasized Groneick.

Together with Slovenia, the new German Ambassador also intends to advocate for the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. “Germany and Slovenia are united when it comes to the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU – we need to make progress on EU enlargement. At the same time, enlargement must proceed in parallel with EU reform to make the EU more efficient,” she said.

The importance of integrating the Western Balkans region into Euro-Atlantic connections was also emphasized by the new British Ambassador to Slovenia Harrison. She shares Slovenia’s view that Euro-Atlantic connections are the best path for the region’s long-term stability. The first blind British ambassador wants to work with Slovenia to achieve this.
