With a post on social media, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that Greece is one of the 7 EU countries selected by the European Commission to create the first “AI factories” in Europe with community and national funding.

“Why is this achievement important? First and foremost, because with the creation of the Greek artificial intelligence factory ‘Pharos’, our strategic commitment to innovation and technological leadership in Europe is highlighted.

This initiative is one of the flagship projects proposed by the high-level advisory committee on artificial intelligence in the recently published ‘Plan for Greece’s Transition to the Artificial Intelligence Era’ to establish Greece as a destination for innovation in the field of artificial intelligence worldwide,” notes the Prime Minister.

He emphasizes that ‘Pharos’ will act as a catalyst hub for Artificial Intelligence, promoting technological advancement in health, environmental sustainability, and particularly, culture and language – sectors that are inextricably linked with the priorities set by our national strategy for artificial intelligence published a few days ago.

“With the support of the supercomputer ‘DAEDALUS’, the artificial intelligence factory ‘Pharos’ will provide a comprehensive ecosystem for the development and adoption of artificial intelligence. From upgrading the skills of the workforce, to providing advanced computing resources and guidance on entrepreneurship, ethics, and compliance,” notes the Prime Minister.

“Our goal is for the Greek artificial intelligence factory to become a hub for research and knowledge for our wider geographic region, highlighting Greece as a technological pole,” he adds.

Finally, the Prime Minister congratulates the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance, EDYTE, and the renowned research and academic partners NCSR ‘Demokritos’, National Technical University of Athens, and the Research Center ‘ATHENA’, and the Hyperfund. “It’s an important national success that places us at the European forefront and opens new paths for Greek researchers, the Greek public sector, and Greek businesses, while simultaneously endowing technological progress with the human-centric character it should have, which Greece, thanks to its tradition and culture, can primarily guarantee,” concludes Mr. Mitsotakis.
