BRUSSELS – Belgian police have conducted a search at the office of an aide to FVD MEP Marcel de Graaff. His Brussels residence and his office in Strasbourg have also been searched. The police were looking for evidence of influence by Russia and the dissemination of Russian propaganda through the news platform Voice of Europe.
It concerns Guillaume P., a former member of the French Rassemblement National of Marine Le Pen, sources around the European Parliament say. He was previously also the assistant to Maximilian Krah, the German AfD MEP who recently came under scrutiny.
The Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office has indications that P. “played a significant role” in the propaganda network around Voice of Europe. Through the news site, MEPs were “approached and paid for the promotion of Russian propaganda,” according to the suspicion. In recent years, many pro-Russian politicians from right-wing radical parties like PVV and FVD have spoken on Voice of Europe, including De Graaff.
