Brussels – In Brussels today, a European Parliament faction Patriots for Europe was formed, chaired by the head of the French National Rally (RN) Jordan Bardella, reported by the Brussels correspondent of Euronews. The vice-chairwoman became Klára Dostálová, a Czech MEP for ANO, her colleague, MEP Ondřej Knotek told CTK.
The faction has 84 members from 12 countries, making it the third strongest political group in the European Parliament. According to the reporter of the Hungarian opposition newspaper Népszava, its first vice-chairwoman is Kinga Gálová, an MEP from the Hungarian Fidesz movement. The faction also has six other vice-chairmen, including Dostálová, Robert Vannacci from the Italian League, Sebastiaan Stöteler from the Dutch PVV, António Tânger Corrêa from the Portuguese Chega, Hermann Tertsch from the Spanish Vox, and Harald Vilimsky from the Austrian FPÖ.
According to the faction’s press release, its members also include Czech MEPs from Přísaha and Motorists Filip Turek and Nikola Bartůšek. Together with seven MEPs from the Czech ANO movement of former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, there are thus nine Czechs in the new European Parliament political group.
The faction further comprises 30 MEPs from the French National Rally (RN) of Marine Le Pen, 11 MEPs from the Hungarian Fidesz party of current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, eight MEPs from the Italian League, six MEPs from the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), six from the Spanish Vox party, six from the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV) of Geert Wilders, three from the Belgian Flemish Interest (Vlaams Belang) party, and two from the Portuguese formation Enough (Chega). The remaining three MEPs come from Denmark, Greece, and Latvia.
