He also highlighted Slovenia’s recent vote against the introduction of additional tariffs on the import of electric vehicles manufactured in China to the countries of the European Union. “We did not do this because of China, but because of Slovenia. After consultations with industry and our major partners, we have resolutely done what I believe to be the only right thing to do at the moment,” he said.

“The global automotive industry is at a historic crossroads due to the transition to a carbon-free society. I believe we can overcome it relatively safely. Of course, large business opportunities also accompany these challenges,” he said. In his opinion, Slovenia can be as confident as China, as it has knowledge, experience, and quality production. However, he emphasized that in order to achieve the appropriate competitiveness, it is necessary to make shifts at the EU level.

The Chinese ambassador to Slovenia Wang Shunqing agreed that the relations between the two countries are good, which is a basis for strengthening economic cooperation. He appreciates Slovenia’s decision to vote against additional tariffs on Chinese electric car imports to the EU. He is also pleased that the European Commission has expressed its readiness for negotiations on this subject. “I hope that Slovenia, as an EU member, will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring the EU’s stable and healthy development of cooperation with China,” he added.
