BRATISLAVA – The winner of the European Parliament (EP) elections in Slovakia is Progressive Slovakia (PS) with 27.81 percent of the votes. Following is the Smer-SD party (24.76 percent), with the Republic movement in third place (12.53 percent). Candidates from Hlas-SD (7.18 percent) and KDH (7.14 percent) also entered the European Parliament. The official results were confirmed by the State Commission for Election and Control of Political Party Financing at a Sunday press conference.
The elections were held in Slovakia on Saturday, June 8, and voters could choose from 23 political entities. The turnout in the European elections reached 34.38 percent (1,505,176 voters who participated in the voting). The number of EP deputies will increase by 15 to 720 compared to the 2019-2024 term. Slovakia will also have one additional representative.
The Members of the European Parliament for Slovakia are Ľudovít Ódor, Ľubica Karvašová, Martin Hojsík, Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová, Michal Wiezik, Lucia Yar (all Progressive Slovakia), Monika Beňová, Katarína Roth Neveďalová, Judita Laššáková, Erik Kaliňák, Ľuboš Blaha (all Smer-SD), Milan Uhrík, Milan Mazurek (both Republic), Miriam Lexmann (KDH) and Branislav Ondruš (Hlas-SD).
Elected President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini wishes new Slovak MEPs to represent the Slovak Republic with dignity. He stated this on social media. At the same time, he thanked everyone who participated in the European Parliament elections. He is pleased that voter turnout was significantly higher than in the last European elections.
