Skopje – There is indeed a necessity to end the conflict in Ukraine, but there is also a more important issue, which is the value we give today in Europe to territorial integrity, the respect for sovereignty, the imperialism of one neighbor over another neighbor, to the extent that its existence, identity, and language are denied, which requires a singular European response, said the French ambassador to North Macedonia, Christophe Le Rigoler.
In response to a journalist’s question about whether “the country’s positioning on UN resolutions could affect its Euro-integration path,” he stated that the country’s decision regarding the voting on Ukraine resolutions at the United Nations was unexpected.
– The goal of European diplomacy today, the goal of each of us, is to have a common approach that will ensure the security of the continent in the coming years, the coming decades for us and our children, said Ambassador Le Rigoler at the press conference on the occasion of the presentation of the Program for this year’s Francophonie celebration.
Asked for an assessment of the current developments in the judiciary in regard to the proposal for the dismissal of the state prosecutor and the interpellation of members of the Judicial Council, Le Rigoler said that the EU and its member states support the reforms in the judiciary, because the independence of the judiciary is one of the most important issues for accession to the Union.
– You know it is a matter of domestic policy, it is not for us to comment. And yet I will say that the subject of the independence of the judiciary is no secret, these are key and capital issues that are most important for entry into the EU, issues that are important to the Union and it repeats this constantly, said Le Rigoler.
North Macedonia and Armenia were the only European countries that abstained from voting when adopting the Resolution at the UN General Assembly condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine on Monday. All other European countries, except Russia, Belarus, and Hungary who voted against, supported the Resolution. (February 26)
