Stockholm – Maria Malmer Stenergard is appointed as Sweden’s new foreign minister.
Moderate Malmer Stenergard, former migration minister, succeeds Tobias Billström who surprisingly announced last week that he would not remain in office as foreign minister after the opening of the parliament.
She is used to working hard, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
– Maria was completely instrumental in getting the migration pact in place during the Swedish presidency, he says, adding that she is widely respected both in Sweden and abroad.
Jessica Rosencrantz (M) gets the post as EU minister after Jessika Roswall who has been nominated to become an EU commissioner.
Rosencrantz has been a member of parliament since 2010. She became chair of the parliament’s EU committee as recently as May this year.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also presented another new minister in his government and that some ministers are changing portfolios, when Sweden’s parliament opened on Tuesday.
