The socialist MEP Marta Temido was elected today as the first vice-president of the Human Rights subcommittee in the European Parliament, announced the institution, being the only Portuguese representative elected to leadership positions in the committees.
The MEPs that compose the respective committees, with the Human Rights subcommittee being integrated into the External Relations committee, chose today their respective presidents and four vice-presidents.
From the leaderships of the 20 permanent committees and four subcommittees of the European assembly, the third and fourth vice-presidents of the Human Rights subcommittee still need to be chosen.
In the European elections on June 9, Portugal chose its 21 representatives in the European Parliament, with the PS managing to elect eight MEPs, AD (PSD and CDS) seven, IL two, and Chega another two. Both BE and CDU (PCP and Greens) elected one MEP each.
