Skopje – Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski is confident that solutions will be found and that the European Union will find mechanisms for the country to receive its deserved place in the Union. In a statement to the media given today from Zelino, Mitskoski said that as a state we will continue to act pro-European and that the Government has no doubts that it should build good relations with all neighbors, including Bulgaria, but that it will not allow ultimatums.
– I am a pragmatic person and politician and I have no doubt that we should build good relations with all neighbors, including Bulgaria. We have no problems expanding our Constitution with part of the Croats living among us, since Macedonians are part of the Croatian Constitution, we have no problem discussing Montenegrins, Slovenians, etc. But, we have a problem accepting ultimatums. I am not a person who accepts ultimatums and I will never allow myself to negotiate on something that I know represents a huge problem and frustration for the Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish citizens and for all those who are an integral part of the Constitution, said Mitskoski.
He believes that a way will be found and the problem will be resolved, but adds that it will remain in the collective memory that the former head of diplomacy negotiated on the Macedonian identity.
– We will seek a way, we will build trust and we will resolve this, whether this generation or some next one, we will resolve it, but it will remain in the collective memory what damage that man did to the Macedonian identity and the Macedonian people. The problem that man created led us from champions in Europe to not being able to even start negotiations with the European Union. He negotiated on the Macedonian identity and made a mistake and if he thinks that we have forgotten that, he is mistaken, said Mitskoski.
In anticipation of tomorrow’s visit by the high representative for foreign and security policy Kaja Kallas, Mitskoski said that he has exceptionally good relations with her and reminded that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Timcho Mutsunski is the first minister from the region to sign the agreement on foreign and security policy with the Union.
As part of her regional tour, Kallas is visiting Belgrade and Pristina today, and tomorrow she is coming to Skopje. She will meet with Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski and Minister of Foreign Affairs Timcho Mutsunski, and accompanied by Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski, she will visit the permanent Balkan medical working group.
– In the next two days, I will visit Serbia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia and will engage with the governments and civil society on their path to the EU, Kallas announced this morning before the start of her official visit to Belgrade. (May 22, 2025)
