Sarajevo (Fena) – The holding of the ministerial conference on the topic of negotiations on the accession of Western Balkan states to the European Union is the best proof of the desire for the European path, said the Minister of Justice of BiH, Davor Bunoza.
However, we are aware that this path, as he said, must be faster. The opening of Chapter 23 (judiciary, fight against corruption and fundamental rights), says Bunoza, is the first and hardest. It is best, he believes, to objectively assess what we have done so far.
The Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto, says that this Council of Ministers of BiH is determined to persist on the European path of BiH, but she is aware that reforms must be accelerated, especially in the field of judiciary.
– We will persist with strong determination in fulfilling the remaining obligations, such as the reform of electoral legislation which entails the implementation of judgments from domestic and international courts, legitimate political representation and elimination of all forms of discrimination, strengthening the rule of law, fighting against corruption, and implementing all EC recommendations, as well as obligations from the Stabilization and Association Agreement – Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto.
The Head of the EU Delegation in BiH, Johan Sattler, says that the task is great and comprehensive, but believes it can be achieved. He conveyed to the political leaders, “face the challenges you encounter. It requires commitment and courage, then solutions are found.”
The French Ambassador to BiH, François Delmas, highlighted the quality of the participants of today’s event, leaders from the fields of politics, administration, judiciary, and civil society. Without the active engagement of these actors, progress in the field of the rule of law would not be possible. He also emphasized the regional dimension of today’s event and, of course, the European.
– The future of southeastern Europe is in the European Union. France is convinced of this – he emphasized.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the EU Delegation/Office of the EU Special Representative in BiH, the Directorate for European Integration of BiH, and the EU4Justice Project. (27.6.)
