Sarajevo (Fena) – The United States’ commitment to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions has never been stronger, said U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy last night in Sarajevo at a reception marking the U.S. holiday, Independence Day on July 4th.
In his speech, he warned that today in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are political leaders “who seek to tear down what we have built together, who attack the fundamental rights and freedoms of their voters, who put their corrupt interests ahead of the prosperity of the people they claim to represent, who are tearing the fabric of BiH society by engaging in divisive politics instead of trying to heal the wounds of the past and who have aimed to tear apart the Dayton Peace Agreement.”
– This endangers the security and stability of BiH, as well as the opportunity offered to the citizens of this country by the EU decision to open accession negotiations with BiH. We have been there to help rebuild Bosnia and Herzegovina and we will not allow anyone to destroy it – emphasized Murphy.
He said he is proud of the work his team in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, and Mostar has done to give this policy concrete, tangible meaning for the citizens of BiH.
– I promise that we will continue to work tirelessly to build a future in which all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina can thrive, and that we will confront the many challenges the country currently faces. Bosnia and Herzegovina has no greater friend and more committed partner than the United States of America – concluded Murphy. (4.7.)
