Skopje – The Minister for European Affairs, Orhan Murtezani, today in Helsinki, during the working visit, also met with the Finnish Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, which represented an opportunity to deepen the dialogue on the European future of the country and the region and to strengthen Finland’s role as a close partner in this process, according to the Ministry.
The friendly bilateral relations, characterized by partnership and mutual support, were reaffirmed at the meeting. Minister Murtezani welcomed Finland’s consistent role and support as part of the informal group in the EU Council “Friends of North Macedonia,” which actively promotes cooperation between the countries of the Western Balkans and the European Union.
Murtezani pointed out that the integration of North Macedonia into the European Union is not only a national priority but also a political strategic goal that sends a message of hope for the entire region.
In this regard, he emphasized the need for a predictable and credible accession process that will motivate candidate countries in implementing reform agendas. The ministers agreed that the Union is not a goal in itself but a mechanism for creating common prosperity, stability, and democratic values. It was emphasized in the talks that enlargement is a key instrument for strengthening the geopolitical relevance of the Union and for maintaining citizens’ trust in the region in the European perspective.
