Brussels – Sweden, Denmark, and Norway join forces against dangerous products from global online stores.
The three countries’ environment ministers are jointly pushing for the EU to take a tougher stance against retail giants like Temu and Shein. For instance, they want to investigate whether it is possible to ban them from listing certain products for sale.
“Global online platforms like Temu and Shein are flooding the market with products that are not safe for consumers and our children. We must do something about this,” says Norwegian Andreas Bjelland Eriksen ahead of an EU meeting in Brussels on Thursday, alongside Swedish Romina Pourmokhtari and Danish Magnus Heunicke.
“These are very serious issues that we notice these platforms do not feel responsible for. As legislators, we must step forward and address this problem before the products spread in our societies,” said Pourmokthari.
The EU Commission warned at the beginning of February about tightened controls on packages from China due to criticism against both Temu and Shein.
Sweden, Denmark, and Norway now want the EU Commission to also investigate what can be done about the way online stores market their products.
