Warsaw – The European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex will support the security forces at the Olympic Games in Paris. Between July and September, an average of 230 Frontex officers will be deployed for the Olympics, the agency announced at its headquarters in the Polish capital, Warsaw. It is the largest special operation in Western Europe to date. At the Paris airports alone, 125 EU border guards are to continuously support their French colleagues at entry controls.
Frontex named airports, seaports, and train stations as the main points of deployment. The border guard officers are to help manage the flow of passengers and identify travelers without entry permits. Specialists who are knowledgeable about counterfeit documents and identities are also in operation.
France, as the host of the Summer Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11, is deploying tens of thousands of police officers and about 15,000 soldiers to ensure the safety of athletes and the public. (July 23)
