Brussels/Ljubljana – President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Slovenia on the 20th anniversary of its accession to the European Union in a video message. She highlighted that Slovenians have always been a model in demonstrating solidarity towards other Europeans.
“Thanks to your membership, Europe has also changed for the better. Slovenians have always been a model in demonstrating solidarity towards other Europeans. You have always been ready to help neighbors in difficult times,” emphasized the Commission President.
“You have always reminded us that our union is not yet perfect and that all Western Balkan inhabitants are part of this family. With Slovenia, Europe is stronger, just as you are stronger with Europe,” she added.
Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and President Nataša Pirc Musar emphasized especially the advantages that Slovenia has gained through its membership in the union in their messages on the 20th anniversary of Slovenia’s EU membership.
“Our economy is more successful because our companies can offer goods and services throughout the European Union with fewer administrative barriers,” stated the President. According to her, we also take better care of the environment, air, and water. She also highlighted the positive effects on the development of agriculture, more balanced regional development, European solidarity, and the protection of human rights.
Prime Minister Golob emphasized that Slovenia’s entry into the EU was the right and best possible decision for the welfare of Slovenian citizens. He described Slovenia’s entry into the EU as a historic event that has solidified our commitment to the values of modern European democracy. (May 1st)
