BLED, 2 September 2024. (Hina) – Croatia will be very satisfied with the portfolio that Croatian candidate Dubravka Šuica will lead in the next European Commission, said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Monday.

“Everything is going in the right direction,” the prime minister said about the negotiations on the composition of the new European Commission.

Plenković, who is participating in the Bled Strategic Forum, said that this week there will still be discussions on the topic, but added that the Croatian government will be “very satisfied” with their results.

Neither the Croatian prime minister nor Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon wanted to reveal which portfolios were being discussed.

“We have an agreement not to talk about it yet,” Plenković said.

At the beginning of August, the government proposed Šuica, the current vice-president of the Commission and commissioner for demography and democracy, for a new mandate.

The former mayor of Dubrovnik, member of parliament, and MEP presented her candidacy to the parliamentary committee for European affairs in August, and Plenković then said she was re-nominated “on the basis of her results”. (2 September 2024)
