Warsaw – Poland will not protect Ukrainian draft dodgers on its territory, but is still awaiting decisions from Kiev and Brussels on the matter, Polish officials said on Tuesday.
“We will certainly not protect the draft dodgers,” said Andrzej Szejna, Deputy Foreign Minister on TVP Info television. However, “there is no official position” from Warsaw because Kiev “has not made any request to the Polish government,” he specified.
Poland has tens of thousands of Ukrainians of military age on its territory, according to United Nations figures.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said it was “very important that there are solutions at the European level. And I know that discussions between Kiev and Brussels are still ongoing on this matter,” he said.
The Ukrainian government has just published a text, according to which Kiev will no longer issue passports abroad to men aged 18 to 60 years. (30.04.2024)
