BRUSSELS – Portugal is one of nine Member States that will receive technical support within the framework of the implementation of the European Union (EU) migration pact, in the preparation of the national implementation plan, the European Commission announced today.
According to a statement from the European executive, following the entry into force of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the adoption of the Common Implementation Plan (CIP) on June 12, 2024, “customized support and specialized advice will be provided to nine Member States through the Technical Assistance Instrument” starting today.
The Commission will support Portugal in designing the future governance model for the implementation of the national implementation plan of the pact, in particular in six components, starting with the common information system on migration and asylum, Eurodac.
A new system for managing migration flows at the EU’s external borders, fair asylum procedures, and resettlement, inclusion, and integration of refugees will also be topics included in Brussels’ technical support.
The national implementation plans of the EU migration pact must be submitted to the European Commission by early December. (August 1)
