LUXEMBOURG – Portugal recorded, in the second half of 2024, the largest year-on-year increase (14.2%) in domestic electricity prices and the fourth highest in purchasing power parity, in light consumption (31.9 euros per 100 kWh) and the highest in gas consumption (16.6 euros per 100 kWh), according to Eurostat.
Expressed in purchasing power parity, Portuguese households pay the fourth highest price of 31.9 euros per 100 kWh of electricity (including fees and taxes), with the highest prices being applied in the Czech Republic (41 euros), Germany (35.53 euros), and Poland (34.67 euros).
The lowest prices were, on the other hand, paid by consumers of domestic gas in Poland (4.72 euros per 100 kWh), Hungary (6.67 euros), and Croatia (5.57 euros).
In terms of gas consumption for households, also expressed in purchasing power parity and including fees and taxes, Portugal recorded, between July and December 2024, the highest price for domestic gas (16.6 euros per kWh) – above the year-on-year figure (16.3 euros) and the previous semester (14.42 euros) – followed by Italy (16.49) and Sweden (16.08).
On average in the EU, the average price of domestic electricity in the European Union remained practically stable, at 28.72 euros per 100 kWh, in the second half of 2024 and gas at 12 euros/100 kWh, (06/05/2025)
