Bratislava – Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico (Smer-SD) met with ambassadors of the European Union countries on Monday. He addressed them in the spirit of sovereign Slovak foreign policy oriented to the four cardinal points. He also evaluated the recent meeting of the European Council and Slovak positions on last week’s EU extraordinary summit (March 20). Fico announced this on social media, reports TASR.
At the meeting with diplomats, the Prime Minister emphasized that Europe will never be competitive without gas transit through Ukraine. He declared that Slovakia will therefore continue its diplomatic offensive to restore this transit.
“Slovakia will not participate in any military mission in Ukraine and will not spend a cent on military assistance to Ukraine, at the same time I am for holding another joint meeting of the Slovak and Ukrainian governments focused on mutually beneficial projects,” the Prime Minister further stated. He also claims that Slovakia will never support any European Union sanctions against Hungary for its sovereign positions.
The Prime Minister also noted that he is doing everything to avoid early elections in Slovakia and to ensure that the government coalition is stable again after the dissolution of the parliamentary clubs of Hlas-SD and SNS.
Fico thanked the present ambassadors for an open and sincere exchange of views and for respecting sovereign Slovak foreign policy. (March 17)
