Paris/Ljubljana – Prime Minister Robert Golob stated at the Wednesday meeting of several European and other countries on Ukraine, organized in Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron, that Europe’s strength lies in its unity. He also advocated for the development of European defense capabilities and industry, according to the Prime Minister’s office.
Golob, who participated in the meeting via video link, also called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, suggesting that everyone should urge Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the aggression and prevent further casualties.
State Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office Vojko Volk described the discussion in Paris as serious and profound on Wednesday’s evening broadcast of Television Slovenia (TVS). According to Volk, the latest statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are concerning, as the first meeting between the U.S. and Russia in Riyadh yielded little results, and several conditions have been set for Ukraine, a victim of Russian aggression, but not for Russia as the aggressor.
As Volk further stated on TVS, a breakthrough towards greater unity in Europe was achieved. President of the European Council Antonio Costa is now expected to assess whether an extraordinary summit of EU leaders will be convened or if they will wait for the regular spring summit on March 20. Slovenia advocates for the extraordinary summit. (February 20)
