Bratislava – Slovakia supports the entry of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union (EU). This was stated at a press conference in Bratislava by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who received Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean on Tuesday. Recean arrived with his delegation for an official visit to Slovakia.
“The main topic that we naturally devoted the most space and attention to is the ambition of the Republic of Moldova to become an EU member state,” specified the Slovak Prime Minister.
Fico noted that there are no open political issues between Slovakia and the Republic of Moldova. “Therefore, we can focus on better economic cooperation, as well as cooperation on fundamental political issues. The mutual turnover between Slovakia and the Republic of Moldova is quite interesting, ranging around 120 to 130 million euros. Nonetheless, we jointly believe that there is room to increase this turnover and for more active communication and cooperation in the business sector, both from Slovakia and the Republic of Moldova,” explained Fico.
“Moldova wants to become an EU member state, and there will be an important referendum on this issue on October 20 in our country. The support of Slovakia is important to us. Therefore, we thank Slovakia for its very clear support on our path to the EU,” added Recean. (September 10)
