Skopje – The Regulatory Commission for Energy, Water Services and Waste Management (RKE) and the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources (MERMS) of North Macedonia have informed the European Energy Community (EEC) that in some countries of Southeast Europe, atypically high electricity market prices are being registered.
The president of RKE, Marko Bislimoski, and the Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozinovska, in an official letter to the director of EEC, Artur Lorkowski, are requesting to mobilize a team that will carry out a detailed analysis and scan the reasons for the substantial imbalance in electricity prices from country to country.
– Starting from the end of June 2024, and especially in July and August, electricity prices in the Southeast Europe region are significantly higher than prices in the rest of Europe. Average day-ahead market prices in July 2024 range from around 159 EUR/MWh in Albania, while in France they are around 46 EUR/MWh. The most noticeable price deviations in this period are registered in Albania and Romania, as well as in other countries of the region, according to the letter sent to EEC.
Besides RKE and MERMS, the respective ministries from Greece, Bulgaria and Romania alerted the Energy Community about this situation. (September 12)
