Bratislava – Building trade barriers and adopting restrictive measures in international trade restricts the export potential of Slovak companies and industry. On Wednesday, the Slovak Export Council (SEC) stated this, calling for the initiation of negotiations at the national level as well as at the EU level with partners in the USA to prevent a trade war, reports TASR.

“We should not be misled by statistics about how much steel or aluminum the Slovak industry directly exports or does not export to the USA. The context of these tariffs is and will be broader; this is not good news for the European Union or the Slovak economy, which are falling in the global competitiveness rankings,” said Lukáš Parízek, chairman of SEC.

He added that the council’s member companies, which operate in the metallurgy sector, export aluminum to the USA not only from Slovakia, but also from their subsidiaries, for example in Canada.
