Brussels/Kyiv – Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob explained after Thursday’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Brussels that the two countries are still aligning their bilateral security agreement, as Kyiv wants more concrete commitments. The agreement was also discussed today in Kyiv by Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar with Zelensky.
At their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels, Golob and Zelensky discussed, among other things, a bilateral security agreement between the two countries. According to the Prime Minister, the talks currently revolve mainly around Ukraine’s desire for more concrete commitments from Slovenia. They particularly want more specific commitments regarding financial assurances for post-war reconstruction aid, said the Prime Minister.
However, he expects that Slovenia and Ukraine will most likely sign the security agreement next month. The leaders should meet again by the end of July.
The security agreement was also a topic of today’s meeting between Zelensky and Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar in Kyiv. The Ukrainian President said that Kyiv is striving to establish a comprehensive framework for such agreements with all European countries. In Brussels on Thursday, he also signed a security guarantees agreement with the European Union.
The President was also briefed today on the preparations for the second peace conference for Ukraine. (June 27-28)
