Brussels – Slovenia, together with Spain, Belgium, and Romania, has called on the next European Commission to build on efforts in the field of European social policy at the meeting of EU ministers for social affairs and employment. Slovenian Minister Luka Mesec emphasized wages, social security, long-term care, and housing.
At the meeting in Brussels, Mesec, together with his colleagues from Spain, Belgium, and Romania, presented a call to the next European Commission to remain committed to the social agenda that the EU has started implementing in the expiring mandate. The Slovenian Minister of Labour, Family, Social Affairs, and Equal Opportunities highlighted the minimum wage as a key achievement.
At the same time, the ministers of the four countries called on the next commission, the composition of which is still ongoing following the European elections in June and could take office towards the end of the year, to build on efforts. They believe that there needs to be a move forward in all areas of social policy – from wages, social security, long-term care, economic democracy to housing, Mesec explained.
At the meeting in Brussels, EU ministers for social affairs and employment discussed the challenges their countries face due to labor shortages. As stated by the EU Council, they presented already adopted measures and discussed possible other ways of action. (July 16)
