Ljubljana – The Administration for Protection and Rescue, within the framework of the European project rescEU, is establishing temporary accommodations for 250 people in case of natural and other disasters. The project for establishing and maintaining temporary accommodation capacity rescEU, which the administration started last year, includes accommodation, a sanitary block, multifunctional spaces, non-food items, as well as logistics and management blocks. They ensure self-sufficiency and operational capacity in the event of natural and other disasters in Europe and beyond.
RescEU enables an even more efficient and faster response to disasters, the administration emphasized on Tuesday. They also announced the construction of several infrastructure facilities and additional equipment for protection and rescue. In addition to capacity building, the project includes the purchase of materials and equipment, storage and maintenance of these resources, the assembly of a Civil Protection unit for management and capacity setting, and training and exercises. Among other things, they have acquired more than a hundred living containers, and they plan to purchase sanitary facilities and other non-food items.
In addition to Slovenia, capacities have been established by Croatia, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey. All countries together provide temporary accommodation for 9,000 people, the administration explained. The project also includes the deployment of equipment and personnel to the affected countries as decided by the European Commission.
The Administration for Protection and Rescue is also completing the construction of an all-Slovenian center for wildfires, which will operate in the town of Sežana near the Italian border, as part of the recovery and resilience plan. In addition, they plan to establish a national protection and rescue center and a pan-Slovenian flood center. (August 20)
