Brussels – The State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Marko Štucin expressed satisfaction with Montenegro’s progress in negotiations with the EU at the intergovernmental conference on Wednesday. Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić thanked Slovenia for its support.
Montenegro has entered the final phase of accession negotiations with the EU, which had been practically stalled for seven years. Spajić stated that they have a plan to continue the negotiations so that his country could become the next EU member by 2028, and thanked the EU and its member states for their support, highlighting friendly relations with Slovenia and Croatia.
The Slovenian representative at the intergovernmental conference, Štucin, emphasized on the X network that this is a recognition of Montenegro’s achieved progress and at the same time an encouragement for continuing reforms.
Montenegro, independent since 2006, began negotiations with the EU in 2012, which came to a halt due to a political crisis in the country. However, in recent months, the government has adopted several key laws and reforms. (June 26)
