Ljubljana – The Slovenian Forestry Institute has signed a contract with the Slovenian company Flycom Technologies to establish and maintain a forestry information system worth 2.16 million euros. This is a key part of the eForestry project, and the funds will be provided from the national recovery and resilience plan following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The activities to establish the new system will start immediately after the contract is signed, and we expect to gradually begin the transition to the new information system in 2025, which will be regularly used at the Slovenian Forestry Institute by all professional services in 2026,” said Gregor Danev, director of the Slovenian Forestry Institute, upon signing the contract.
The key services to be supported by the new forestry information system relate to the fields of cultivation, forestry supervision, forestry planning, spatial interventions, logging, forestry technology, and forest protection.
Within these areas, several new modules will be established to support the most demanding spatial analyses, planning, and implementation of forest management with the main task of simplifying, optimizing, and upgrading the public forestry service.
“For forest owners and other stakeholders, this will mean simpler and more efficient service, supported by a larger amount of data, bureaucratic relief, and faster and more illustrative information about the forest and its management,” they explained. (September 27)
