Brussels – The EU Council has appointed the current deputy permanent representative of Slovenia to the EU, David Brozina, as the new Director-General of the Directorate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Social Affairs and Health. He will take up the position on April 1, announced in Brussels.

The Directorate-General, currently headed by Cesare Onestini, supports the work of the EU Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, and the EU Council for Employment, Social Policy, Health, and Consumer Affairs.

In his career, Brozina has held several diplomatic positions and gained extensive experience in European affairs. Between 2002 and 2005, he was an advisor at Slovenia’s permanent representation to the EU.

Between 2011-2015, he was the deputy head of mission at the Slovenian embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then between 2015 and 2019, he was the Director-General for EU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was responsible for EU coordination, institutional affairs, and bilateral relations with EU member states.

Before taking up his current role as deputy permanent representative, he was the head of administration at Slovenia’s permanent representation to the EU from 2020-2022, stated in Brussels.

The only Slovenian who has previously held the position of Director-General in the EU Council was the former Slovenian minister and former ombudsman Ivan Bizjak, who led the Directorate-General for Justice and Home Affairs between 2005 and 2011. (February 18)
