Stockholm – Sweden presents its largest military support package to Ukraine so far. The package amounts to 16 billion kronor.
The largest part, just over 9 billion, will be used by Sweden to purchase weapons and equipment, which will then be delivered to Ukraine. Purchases will mainly be made from the Swedish but also from the European defense industry.
The majority of deliveries are expected to be relatively quick. Exactly what will be purchased will be announced only when contracts are signed. However, it could involve artillery ammunition, air defense, drones, and satellite communication.
In total, Sweden’s military support to Ukraine this year amounts to nearly 30 billion kronor. Since the war started, it’s about almost 80 billion.
Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson says that “more must do more”.
“This is not only a responsibility on Sweden’s shoulders but also on the other allies, and not least the European allies,” he says.
Are you disappointed with other EU countries?
“I think there are reasons for other EU countries to do significantly more than they are doing today,” says the minister in response to TT’s question.
