Stockholm – Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billström has to the surprise of many announced his resignation. He is leaving politics entirely next week when the Swedish parliament reopens.
“You should leave when it’s the most fun. When the government took office, we set up three goals for foreign and security policy. Sweden would join NATO. We would organize a successful EU presidency. The support to Ukraine would increase. And the first two goals have been achieved”.
“Sweden probably has the leader’s jersey when it comes to supporting but also gathering support for Ukraine. And I am proud of those imprints”.
The overhaul of Swedish security policy and NATO entry on March 7 this year is his proudest moment.
It has been reported that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson offered Billström the job as EU commissioner, where Sweden has now nominated Jessika Roswall.
But Billström avoids answering whether he was offered the job.
