Bratislava – The Slovak Republic succeeded in negotiating an extension of the exemption for the export of fuels and petroleum products made from oil originating from the Russian Federation to the Czech Republic, which was the subject of negotiations in Brussels. The exemption was approved for a period of six months. The final approval of the exemption is expected at the EU Council meeting in Brussels, informed the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, reports TASR.
“The negotiation of the exemption for the export of products from Russian oil to the Czech Republic is an important success not only from the point of view of our internal market but also for stable prices in the region. Therefore, I am glad that we managed to extend the exemption,” said the Minister of Economy Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD).
In 2022, sanctions were imposed on the import of Russian oil as part of the sixth package of EU measures against the Russian Federation, which had a direct impact on the fuel market and its production in Slovakia.
After the exemption ended on December 5, 2024, it was possible to use Russian oil delivered by the Druzhba pipeline only for the production of fuels for the domestic market and for export to Ukraine. (December 12)
